Eco-Friendly Facility Design
Raingardens at Work
Our raingardens filter stormwater runoff from our roof and parking areas, using specialized plants that thrive in wet conditions. These plants filter out pollutants like motor oil from cars and trucks on site, ensuring cleaner water reaches the local waterways.
Protecting Waterways
After filtration, some of the water infiltrates back into the ground, while the rest flows into nearby Gabo Creek and eventually into the Colquitz River—home to between 200 and 400 spawning Coho salmon each year.
Long-Term Commitment
During construction, we took special care to prevent contaminants from entering the local ecosystem. Our raingardens are a key part of our ongoing efforts to manage stormwater, contributing to the health of the Colquitz River and its salmon population.
Eco-Friendly Facility Design
Bright White Roof
The reflective white roof of our building reduces the urban heat island effect, keeping our facility cooler in the summer and lowering energy consumption.
Water Conservation
We use drought-tolerant landscaping, smart irrigation systems, and water-efficient plumbing fixtures to minimize water use and protect this precious resource.
Heat Recovery Systems
Our building features a variable-flow refrigerant (VRF) heat recovery system and energy recovery ventilators (ERVs), which optimize heating and cooling by transferring heat between different areas of the facility.
LED Lighting
We’ve installed LED lights throughout our building. These lights use significantly less energy than traditional bulbs, last longer, and are made from recyclable materials.
Sustainable Transportation
To encourage eco-friendly commuting, our facility offers ample bike parking and is conveniently located near public transit, reducing our carbon footprint.
Smart Packaging
In our production area, we use bulk vacuum bags to reduce waste and ensure that our produce stays fresh for longer periods, minimizing food waste and packaging materials.
